Reflexology FAQ
Question:
Do you offer real Reflexology or just a foot
massage?
Answer: It's Reflexology!
Alan & Nikki are both fully Certified Reflexologists and are Registered
with the Reflexology Registration Council of Ontario. They received
their extensive training at Centennial College under the Holistic
Practitioner Program. Some RMTs may offer what they call a
"Reflexology Foot Massage", but only a person who is a fully
Certified Reflexologist can give you the Reflexology experience
that restores balance and is so beneficial. Be sure to ask if
your practitioner is certified and a member of the Reflexology
Registration Council of Ontario.
Question:
Are people fully clothed when they have a
Reflexology Session?
Answer: Almost! For
a reflexology session, you will need to remove just your
shoes and socks.
Question:
What are some of the benefits of Reflexology?
Answer: There are countless!
The benefits of Reflexology is different for each person based on
their state of health. After a session many people feel refreshed
and energized while others feel calm and relaxed. Almost everyone
notices a release of toxins by the body and a state of well being.
Although we do not treat specific illnesses, people have experienced
significant improvement in a variety of areas. Reflexology is
an effective and important part of any preventative healthcare
program.
Question:
Does Reflexology help people to Detox?
Answer: During your session, we work on a variety of
body systems. The Lymphatic System is one of the body systems
that is stimulated through the Reflexes in the feet. Lymph
Fluid moves through your body through a series of ducts, nodes and
tubes. Lymph carries waste products from the cells in your
body to the elimination organs. It is believed that by
simulating the Reflexes relating to the Lymph Glands that the system
is stimulated to increase it's natural toxin removal process.
Other activities that help detoxify also include rhythmic deep
breathing (which is typical in a deeply relaxed state that you can
experience during a Reflexology Session) and Muscle movement (exercise).
Question:
My feet are ticklish, will Reflexology tickle?
Answer: We use some pressure when we stimulate the
reflexes therefore it generally doesn't tickle. The reaction to
tickling usually only happens with very light touch.
Question:
Will you clean my feet?
Answer: YES, we
will use freshening cloths to freshen and clean your feet before we begin
the actual Reflexology.
Question:
Can I have a session if I have Athletes foot or warts?
Answer: NO, you
will need to take care of these foot problems before having a
Reflexology Session.
Question:
Can I have Reflexology if I have Corns or Calluses?
Answer: YES, corns
and/or calluses will generally not negatively effect your Reflexology
experience.
Question:
Do you wear gloves when doing Reflexology?
Answer: Generally NO,
unless we feel the need after your foot examination or upon your
request.
Question:
Do people fall asleep during Reflexology Sessions?
Answer: Sometimes!
Some people like to talk, others relax deeply, and
some people drift in and out of a light sleep state. It just depends on
what your body needs. Reflexology typically puts the body into a
Parasympathetic state (the body's state of rest and repair) allowing
you to get the maximum benefit from your session.
Question:
Can you explain what happens in a session?
Answer: Absolutely!
You will complete our client intake
forms, remove your shoes and socks and choose if you wish to lie on
a comfortable massage bed or sit in our reclining reflexology chair.
We will then clean and examine your feet to make sure there are
problems or concerns. The session will then begin with a
foot warm up to improve blood circulation. We then work on reflexes in
the following body systems Lymphatic, Respiratory, Skeletal (includes
back and sciatica), Urinary, Nervous, Endocrine, Reproductive. As we work
each system, you may notice certain areas of sensitivity, by
letting the practitioner know that the area is sensitive, extra
attention can be given to these areas to further stimulate the organ
or gland that it relates to, promoting additional circulation and
simulation to that area.
